Avengers: Endgame marked the end of a decade long cinematic experience for Marvel Cinematic Universe. It still brings me goosebumps thinking back to our unified expressions at the cinema, we laughed, gasped, and cried while watching Endgame.

Another decade long saga which we experienced together was the Harry Potter (film Series). Just thinking about it brings back bittersweet memories of the Harry Post World and its books.

While the universes of Marvel and Harry Potter are vastly different, in this post I’ll be comparing the two series based on their movies only (not including source materials: books, comics, etc.).

Needless to say this post will contain SPOILERS, so if you haven’t watched one or any of the movies, DO NOT continue reading this post.

The Mood and the Music

The first half of Deathly Hallows Part 2 is directly continued from where part 1 left off. The mood was kept-on-edge as The Trio (Harry, Hermione, and Ron) continue to find the remaining Horcruxes. The best way to describe it was the ‘silence before the storm’.

Avengers: Endgame’s first half was in direct contrast to that of Harry Potter. It was kept light and funny, and it that way it hit us more when the plot twists came. The way I would describe this would be ‘never saw that coming’.

When the final battle sequences started in both final movies, we were not only glued to our seats with tissues in our hands because of the special effects, but also due to the amazing soundtrack playing. Death Hallows was a more subdued track emphasizing on the gravity of the situation. (Titled: Endgame by Alexandre Desplat).

For Avengers on the other hand, The music was upbeat and seemed to bring hope to the fight that was taking place. (Titled: Portals by Alan Silvestri).

And of course the main scenes where I bet everyone couldn’t hold back the tears any longer (the above two images) were just ‘marvel’-ous. Even the use of dome-looking-portals were contrasting in their type of use is both franchises.

The Time Travel Concept

A concept of time travel existed in both MCU and HP. However, there rules were somewhat different.

In Harry Potter (movie 3), is was done via time turner, and well -Magic!, but in Endgame, science had to jump in to make some sense to the whole thing. Hermione had explained it as to never appear in front or interact with your past self. And what happens in the past effects the future directly.

The Avengers and the “Time Machine”

For Avenger’s ‘time machine’ using Quantum Physics didn’t follow Hermione’s ideology. Any change in the past will create an alternate future, where past, present, and future events can co-exist in their respective universes. This gives the slightest hope that if a spin-off were to be made, we might see our beloved Avengers again – even the ones we lost.

The Ultimate Power

In Harry Potter we have the “Deathly Hallows” – an unbeatable wand, a stone to bring the dead to life, and a cloak of invisibility, if wielded by a wizard will make give him ultimate power.

In Avengers, we see the 6 Infinity Stones, each symbolizing Space, Mind, Reality, Power, Time and Soul. They are the source of unlimited power and can be used to the control their respective affinities. Not anyone can harness the power of all 6 stones, they will need to be strong enough to withstand the impact of their wish, as all 6 stone combined gives them the ability to do almost anything.

Love in its all forms

I’ll only say the lines from both series and nothing more, before I go wipe my tears again:

“After all this time?” “Always”

“Love you 3000.”

Which Hogwarts House would The Avengers be in?

To finish of this post (finally), I thought it’ll be nice to sort The Avengers into Hogwarts Houses. (Disclaimer: you may not and don’t have to agree to my sorting, these are simply my opinions)

Iron Man: Obviously Gryffindor! He is brave, determined (and obnoxious).

Captain America: Ravenclaw. He was the most level-headed Avenger.

Thor: hmmm.. Gryffindor. He is daring and chivalrous.

Black Widow: Probably Ravenclaw. She is smart and understanding.

Hawkeye: Huffpuff! He works hard and shows dedication.

Hulk: uh— I really don’t know, Gryffindor because he is stupid-brave.

Loki (Just because): Of course Slytherin. There is no one else this Slytherin-y other than Loki.

This concludes my post, hope you like it! Let me know what you think!
